a fascinating journey into the middle ages. the sundial above the portal to mauterndorf castle welcomed traders, scoundrels and travelers on their way across the alps hundreds of years ago. where it was once said "open the bag and pay the toll", visitors can now dive deep into the middle ages. life-size figures, the imposing defense tower and playfully designed stations make the lovingly restored castle an exciting "museum to touch and participate in". the castle is open daily.
